David Attenborough’s legendary BBC crew explains and shows wildlife all over planet earth in 10 episodes. The first is an overview the challenges facing life, the others are dedicated to hunting, the deep sea and various major  groups of creatures: plants, primates and other large sections of other vertebrates and invertebrates.

This promo was created for the Discovery Channel’s documentary series, Life.  I animated the text in the promo and created the Life logo reveal which was used throughout the series.

This is an in-house promo piece featuring the redesign of DirectBuy.com’s website. It highlights the website’s new features, functionality, appearance, and reviews from focus group participants.  I was the sole animator on the project

This animation was created for an advertising conference held in Istanbul for the international advertising, marketing and public relations agency, Ogilvy & Mather.

I was one of 6 animators who brought this 3 minute animation to life in 6 days. I also was responsible for prepping a large chunk of the Photoshopped characters for animation.

Anything can happen on Nim’s Island, a magical place ruled by a young girl’s imagination. It is an existence that mirrors that of her favorite literary character, Alex Rover – the world’s greatest adventurer. But Alexandra, the author of the Rover books, leads a reclusive life in the big city. When Nim’s father goes missing from their island, a twist of fate brings her together with Alexandra. Now they must draw courage from their fictional hero, Alex Rover, and find strength in one another to conquer Nim’s Island.

The title sequence is featured at the end of the film and replicates parts of the story, but in a stylized handmade aesthetic.  I served as the animator where Selki the seal swims in, farts, licks the camera, then swims off in a slew of bubbles.

This is a 3D animated commercial spot which demonstrates how Celebrex can help you live a more active life.  My role was to take the multiple render passes from Maya, and composite them into After Effects to create the whole blue world look.  Most of the text outlines around the characters and objects were created in Maya, but I worked out the text transitions that you would read between the 3D and 2D shots.  The entire project required a team of 6-7 animators.

This is a montage of some of the projects on which I have worked on over the years. I’m a freelance motion graphic animator and designer working in Los Angeles. I have experience taking an entire project from concept to completion, and am capable of stepping in at whatever stage that help is needed.

“Great Things About Being…” was a series on Bravo that devoted an entire show to the great things about being blonde, 30, fat, etc,.  The challenge was to design a show package that was very “pop”, yet easily customizable to each new topic.  So the three color system of brown, tan, and the variable color was employed to allow each package to have its own unique color.  Then pre-comps were used at each photographic station that easily swapped photos pertaining to that particular package.  The ease of changing colors, photos, and text at the end allows this show package to be one of the most reused packages on the network for a few seasons.

I was the sole designer and animator for this entire project, including all the lower thirds, mortises, bumpers, and transitions.  Below are the first rounds of colors and topics for the show open.  They’re all the same minus the colors, photos, and title.  So watch according to your color preference!

These promos were for Mysteries of Egypt and Civilization, a series of documentaries on the Discovery Times Channel that ran in a time block on a single night.  Mysteries of Egypt were for documentaries that focused on a search for lost pharaoh tombs, the Valley of the Kings, and a historical biography of Cleopatra.  Civilization was a broader look back into ancient cultures.

I was the designer on the job, so I created several different design boards to pitch to the client.  After they chose the design they liked best, I continued on as the animator.  Since Civilization was in the same family of documentary programming, we used the same design style, but tweaked the animation a bit to set it a part from the Mysteries of Egypt promo.  (Note: During the design phase, Mysteries of Eygpt was called Egypt Night.)

Civilization

This video ran in theaters all over Los Angeles to promote their entertainment “Calendar” section. I was one of several animators on the project that roto’d the images, animated the character ink blots, and ink splat logo reveal. (Unfortunately the logo reveal was edited down for time, but like they say, the cutting room floor is covered in gold. haha)

These fun, vector style spots demonstrated aspects of Comcast’s services.  Due to the amount of characters involved, there was a lot of humorous hinge animation employed.  The first video below is a collection of shots that didn’t make the final cut, but since they were action scenes involving hamsters I had to include it.
